I had a song on my last album about what an optimist I am, but this is the ugly flipside. I had to crawl underneath a blanket to sing the lead vocal (really) - almost all of it was recorded in one harrowing session.
I don't think I'll share where this one came from. Can I please have a drink?
lyrics
I’m empty. I’m empty.
I’ve got nothing inside.
And I’m starting to slide.
I’m going under.
Slowly going under.
I’m hurting. I’m hurting.
But it’s behind a wall.
So I feel nothing at all.
I’m disappearing.
Slowly disappearing.
I’m lonely. I’m lonely.
I’ve got no one to hold.
And I’m out in the cold.
And I am freezing.
Slowly I am freezing.
I’m hungry. I’m hungry.
And I ache to be fed.
Put some love in this head.
I’m growing weaker.
Slowly growing weaker.
There’s voices. There’s voices.
And they’re calling my name.
Though I feel I’m still sane,
they’re getting louder.
Slowly getting louder.
I’m empty. I’m empty.
